Sydney Cash: Being Seeing

August 16–September 22, 2024
The Woodstock Artists Association & Museum

Works on view in this presentation playfully challenge the viewer’s perception of the world. Using FLUTEX, an industrial pattern glass that was first used commercially in the 1930s and 1940s, Cash creates sculptures that transform imagery to create a meditative visual experience. Cash began using FLUTEX for sculptural works in the 1970s, and has recently revisited the material in its more fluid and colorful contemporary patterns. When viewing the sculptures, each eye sees a different image, such that two images are perceived at once, a process designed to quiet the viewer’s mind and underscore the physical experience of seeing.
