Dipped Wire Structures
Toward the end of 2021 I started working with metal screening and hardware cloth that created transparent planes. The graphic grid of the hardware cloth related to many of my paintings on paper. I started pouring latex paint onto these wire grid structures, and soon after began dipping them into vats of latex paint. I was captivated by the buildup and designs of the paint flesh that formed on the wire bones through multiple dippings. Most recently I've been combining the square columns made of my black and white paintings on paper with the wire grid structures. There is something fascinating about being able to visually enter into the different spaces that are created in these wall pieces. That semi-transparency also produces captivating shadows in response to the lighting, a theme that's been important to me for the past 30 years.
