Mirror Work

In 1969, Cash had rented part of the White St Glass and Mirror factory space to be able to bend sheet glass and produce “image-distorting mirrors”.  Cash did a performance piece, wearing mirror sandwich boards. He walked around reflecting people’s images back at them. It was written about in The Daily News article on the first earth day. Within the year, the overcooked “mistakes” became more interesting than the mirror forms. At that point, Cash started paying attention to making three-dimensional structures, transforming sheet glass into self-supporting forms over fine nichrome wires. This was the beginning of bodies of work that continued until the next century.
